The Aiptasia Eating Peppermint Shrimp does best in home aquariums with live rock, ample places to hide, as well as open areas to scavenge. Peppermint shrimps are shipped at 1”-2”, maximum size is around 2”. They are a useful addition to the reef aquarium even if you don’t have Aips, because they are good general scavengers, and should any Aips appear at a later date they will eradicate them quickly preventing a plague of Aips occurring. A single Peppermint shrimp can tackle very small Aiptasia on it’s own, but, to be affective they really need to be in a group. They grow up to 5cm long and their bodies are semi. They work in a group with one grabbing the tentacles and pinning the Aip to the rockwork, whilst the others attack it from behind. Aiptasia anemones can overrun an aquarium or refugium, and no amount of picking and cleaning will get rid of. Peppermint shrimp are most commonly used to control Aiptasia anemones (Pale Anemones) in reef tanks and refugiums. Peppermint shrimps eat Aiptasia anemones. Keep in mind that some individual Peppermint Shrimp are better at managing aiptasia while others.
